Day 1: Los Padres National Forest – Near Santa Barbara
If you’re craving an epic road trip packed with stunning coastal views, great surfing and remote camping spots, then this San Diego to Big Sur van camping adventure is for you! Get ready to explore rugged landscapes, hike through redwoods, and camp under the stars— all while keeping your journey as wild and off-grid as possible.

Itinerary Details
Day 1: Destination - Santa Barbara Mountains
- 7AM - Rendezvous in Encinitas and load the van
- 8AM - Depart for Santa Barbara
- 12PM - Lunch at Spencer Makenzie's Fish in Ventura
- 2PM - Arrive at Los Padres National Forest
- Activities: Hike Gaviota Peak
- 7PM - Campfire + Dinner (GOOD TO GO - Thai Curry) + S'mores
Next Day Details
- Catch the sunset at Lizard’s Mouth
- Catch some waves at Rincon Point on the way up
- Visit Cold Spring Tavern, a historic stagecoach stop hidden in the forest

- 7AM - Breakfast (Egg and Potato Breakfast Scramble)
- 8AM - Depart for Montana De Oro
- 10PM - Arrive and Lunch (Deli Sandwich)
- Activities: Hiking + Beach Walks
- 2pm - Depart for Morro Bay
- Optional 2nd night camp here at Islay Creek Campground

- Hike hike the Bluff Trail - 4 miles round trip
- Beach Walk through Hazards Canyon

- Check out elephant seals near Piedras Blancas Lighthouse
- Stop by Salmon Creek Trailhead for a breathtaking hike with a waterfall
